Singapore International Triathlon

Watch this space as we are trying to secure a new exciting course and venue layout for Singapore International Triathlon.

East Coast Park will be the epi-centre once again of all the action. With all race activities at close proximity it is not just very convenient for the athletes, but also great for spectatorship. The shaded park and entertainment provided will just add to the fun.

The course does not just provide for a fast and exciting competition, but is also very competitor friendly.

And what to expect from the course:

  • Small wave starts: the number of athletes per wave is kept low to avoid congestion and ease the race flow.
  • Safe swim course: completely roped off, with big marker buoys and lifeguards on kayaks, jetskis and boats, the swim course is well marked and protected.
  • Flat bike course: the bike course is easy to navigate, absolutely flat and made for fast times.
  • Shaded run course: the extensive tree cover of East Coast Park provides sun cover on the run course, so you can stay cool.
  • Drinks stations: stay hydrated and refreshed with drink stations every 1.5km on the run course.
  • Finish rush: the festival atmosphere, thanks to the spectator friendly course and entertainment will enhance your final strides through the finish chute towards achieving Singapore Triathlon greatness!

Race Categories

TAS Day of Race License with Personal Accident Insurance is included with all race entries

The Triathlon Association of Singapore (TAS) Day of Race License fee included in entry price are as follows:

  • Triathlon – $4 per entry
  • Scoot-althlon – $4 per entry
  • SuperSprint Relay – $12 per relay entry
  • Relay – $12 per relay entry

25% Discount for people with disability

Here at MetaSport, we encourage all people to get involved in sporting activities and events for a full, happy and healthy life. For the 2015 Singapore International Triathlon we are offering a 25%^ discount for people with a disability. This includes those with autism, chronic illness (excluding asthma), hearing loss or deafness, visually impaired or blind, intellectual disability, learning disability, mental illness or physical disability.

The 25% discount will be applied on an individual basis and evidence of the participant’s disability may be required prior to any discount issued. MetaSport reserves the right to refuse any discount request. This may be due to safety reasons for the individual, other participants or staff or any other reason MetaSport deems reasonable.

Tri Club Challenge

The Singapore International Triathlon is a fun-packed race for all ages. It is set to be a truly exciting competition with Singapore’s best athletes taking part and challenging for the honor of helping their club to be crowned Club Champion!

Criteria: Minimum eight (8) participants per organization. (Organization can send in as many participants as they want, provided the participant must be directly part of the organization on day of race).

Entitlements: In addition to the standard participants entitlement groups will be entitled to the following discounts:

  • 15 participants or more, 5% discount will be given
  • 25 participants or more, 10% discount will be given

Each individual racing will score points for their club. The winning club will be the club with the most points! To make sure you can score points for your club, make sure you include the name of your club in the entry form.

Health Advice

Whether you are a beginning or seasoned multi-sport athlete, please take note of the following advice that should prevent you from getting injured during this event.

Beat the heat!

Singapore’s climate is hot and humid, and you will feel this especially during the run. To avoid a heat injury, you should drink sufficiently before, during and after the race to replace the amount of fluid lost.Your early morning (caffeine-free) fluid intake should consist of approx. 500ml, and 250ml every following hour before your race. Make use of the drink stations provided by the organizer and carry drink bottles on your bike to keep yourself hydrated during and after your race as well.

Pace yourself!

Despite the excitement of the race start, do make allowances for the race course terrain, weather conditions and your level of physical conditioning. Especially if you are new to this type of exercise and/or race distance, it’s a good idea to maintain a race pace within your safe physical comfort zone. If you feel unduly tired and giddy, or if you develop a headache and feel over-heated, slow down!

Listen to your body!

Apart from undue fatigue, if you start to have difficulty breathing, develop chest pain, or re-discover that old injury you have been ignoring, it would be a good idea to stop and seek medical attention. If you have had an illness with fever in the week before the race, it may be wise to sit out the race. If you decide to give it a go, start out at a slower pace than usual, and if you start to feel unwell, please stop and seek medical help.

Take responsibility for your health!

With this event we hope to encourage people to take up sport and adopt a healthy lifestyle; exercise and eat healthy. By entering this event you should be aware of your physical abilities and whether you are able to compete in this event without a health risk.

Please consult your doctor if you have a heart condition, have a family history of cardiac arrests, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or any other condition that may keep you from participating.

Rules and Regulations

  • The Singapore International Triathlon (The Event) is sanctioned by the Triathlon Association of Singapore (TAS) and supported by Sport Singapore (SS). It is organized in accordance with the rules of  ITU. The Event is part of the  National Championships Series.
  • Completion of the race entry form evidences the Participants’ agreement to abide by the relevant rules and regulations of  TAS and The Event.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to amend the Rules and Regulations without prior notification.
  • Whilst every reasonable precaution will be taken by the Organisers to ensure the participants’ safety, participants partake in this event at their own risk and the Organisers shall not be liable for any bodily injuries, loss and/or damage to property, whether personal or otherwise, and howsoever arising.
  • Any disputes arising from the participation in the Event shall be referred to Arbitration and to be conducted in Singapore under the law of the Singapore Courts.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to use any photographs, motion picture, recordings, or any other record of this race and its participants for any commercial advertising including legitimate purpose.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to amend the race course without prior notice to participants.
  • In the event of inclement weather, the Organisers reserve the right to delay the commencement of the race.
  • Should the inclement weather persist after delay, the Organisers reserve the right to change the race distance, race format or cancel the race without any refund of registration fees.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to remove any participant deemed physically incapable of continuing the race.
  • Participants must complete the PAR-Q health questionnaire before starting their race and seek advice from a medical professional if any of the questions is not answered positively.
  • Partipants shall be aware that while all possible care will be taken by the event organiser to safeguard the bag drop items, the event organizer shall not be held liable in the unlikely event of missing or damaged items. Partipants are advised to avoid depositing valuable or fragile items while using the bag drop service

Race Entry

  • The Organisers reserve the right to limit and/or refuse entries without assigning any reason thereof.
  • Participants registering for the Kids distance must be between 8-11 years old on 31 Dec 2014 to compete in the race.
  • Participants registering for the Youth distance categories must be between 12-15 years old on 31 Dec 2015 to compete in the race.
  • Participants registering for the Mini distance categories must be 16 years old and above on 31 Dec 2015 to compete in the race.
  • Participants registering for the Mini Relay distance categories must be 12 years old and above on 31 Dec 2015 to compete in the race.
  • Participants registering for the Junior distance category must be between 16-19 years old on 31 Dec 2015 to compete in the race.
  • Participants registering for the Sprint distance categories must be 20 years old and above on 31 Dec 2015 to compete in the race.
  • Participants registering for the Standard distance categories must be 18 years old and above on 31 Dec 2015 to compete in the race.
  • Participants registering for the Standard Relay must be 18 years or older*
  • Super-Sprint Relay teams must consist of three team members of 16 years or older*
  • Once the registration form has been duly processed, there will be no fee refund for those who fail to turn up for the race and/or withdraw from it.
  • Individual race entries are non-transferable. Any person doing so will be held responsible in case of an accident arising from or provoked by the other person during the race. The Organisers reserve the right to exclude both parties from future events.
  • Changes to team relay members are permitted until registration closing date. An admin fee of S$15 applies per change of person.
  • The Organisers will not be responsible for any disputes arising from incomplete/wrong entry details given by the participants.
  • The race registration will only be confirmed when full payment of the race registration fee has been made.
  • Entries after the registration closing date will not be entertained.
  • The participant must ensure the provided race details are correct upon receipt of the Race Confirmation email and report any discrepancies within 48 hours of submission of the entry form to the Organisers. Any changes thereafter are subjected to an admin charge of $15.00.
  • Upgrade of a race entry is permitted until the registration closing date. The additional charge plus admin fee of S$15 applies per change.
  • Downgrade of race entry is permitted until registration closing date. There will be no refund of the fee difference and the admin fee will be waived.
  • All participants must collect their race kit (that includes a swim cap, timing band, 2 race bibs, security bracelet, bike flag and helmet sticker at the race kit collection dates and venues. Participants who fail to do so will not be allowed to race on Race Day
  • Participants must return the timing chip & band to the organisers immediately after the race. A $20 payment applies for any loss or damage to the timing chip or band.
  • Participants in both the individual and relay category must ensure that their timing band is securely strapped to the left ankle before beginning on any leg of the race. The organisers are not responsible for any inaccuracy in participant’s race timings due to improper wearing of the timing band.
  • Participants must read the race briefing prior to the race to familiarise themselves with the venue, course and rules of the event. The Race Briefing will be available on the event website 10 days prior to the race.
  • Participants who wish to protest against another competitor or notify a violation must do so in writing to the organisers within 30 minutes of his/her finish time. All protests must be made in accordance with the existing ITU Rules. A deposit of SGD70/US$50 or equivalent must accompany the appropriate protest and will be refunded if the protest is successful.

Transition Area

  • The Transition Area will be open 1 hour before the commencement of the race
  • Only participants wearing the event’s security bracelet are allowed access to the transition area.
  • Only bikes with the event’s bike flag pasted on the seat post are allowed access to the transition area.
  • Participants must place their essential race items at the designated location, marked by their race numbers, in the transition area.
  • Participants in relay teams are responsible for passing their timing band to their teammates at the designated relay handover area after completing their respective legs. Passing of timing band outside of the designated area results in immediate disqualification. In other words, the swimmer must hand over the timing band to the cyclist at the designated area, and in turn, the cyclist must hand over the Timing Band to the runner at the same designated area.
  • Cycling in the transition area is not allowed. Participants must push their bicycle out of the transition area until after the mount line. Participants must dismount from their bicycle before the dismount line and push their bicycle into the transition area. Participants that mount their bicycle before the mount line or dismount after the dismount line receive a time penalty.

Swim Test (Important! Please Read Carefully)

  • Participants who are a First Timer swimming in an open water competition must pass a pool test and an open water swim test to take part in the event. The participants must pass the pool test before they are allowed to take the open water swim test. This rule applies only to the swimmer of a relay team.
  • The admin fee charged for the pool test and open water swim test is strictly non-refundable.
  • The participant is allowed to register for another test after a failed attempt.
  • The participants have to complete the pool test according to the following criteria:
  • Upon passing the pool test participants must complete the race distance in the open water swim test.
  • Participants who fail the pool or open water swim test will have their registration rejected and entry fee refunded.
  • Kids categories: Swimming 200m within 5 minutes;
  • Youth & Mini categories: Swimming 400m within 10 minutes;
  • Junior & Sprint category: Swimming 750m within 40 minutes;
  • Standard categories: Swimming 1,500m within 60 minutes.

Swimming

  • Swimsuits must be worn.
  • All swimmers must wear the swim caps provided by the Organisers.
  • Swim goggles may be worn.
  • Fins, paddles, pool buoys, snorkels or any other swimming aids are not allowed.
  • Wet suits are not allowed.
  • Support crews are not allowed.
  • No persons other than the participants and officials are permitted in the swimming area.
  • Swimmers in difficulty shall signal to the escorting boats/canoes for assistance. Once assistance is rendered the competitor is disqualified from the competition.
  • The swim course of the Standard distance will be closed 75 minutes after the start of the race. Participants that do not finish the swim within this time will not be allowed to continue the race.
  • Warming-up for the swim must be conducted within the designated area.

Cycling

  • Cyclists must ensure that their competition numbers are clearly visible at the back of their adorned apparel at all times.
  • The bike flag must be properly secured on the seat post.
  • The Helmet number tag must be clearly displayed on the front of the helmet.
  • Cycling with bare torso is not allowed.
  • A participant may run or walk with his bicycle.
  • Cyclists are to keep to the left side of the road unless overtaking and are reminded to observe traffic rules at all times. Overtaking on the left of a cyclist is not allowed.
  • All participants will have to perform their own repairs if their bicycles should breakdown. Changing of bicycles is only permitted at designated point(s).
  • Support vehicles and crews are not permitted.
  • All cyclists must wear helmets approved by the following recognized testing authorities: American National Standard Institute (ANSI Z-90.4), Snell Memorial Foundation & National Swedish Board of Consumer Policy.
  • Participants must wear their helmet securely strapped from the moment they remove their bike from the rack until the moment they place it back.
  • It is the participants’ responsibility to ensure that their bicycles and bicycle brakes are in good working condition.
  • Wearing headphones is not allowed at all times.
  • Drafting is not allowed. You are considered drafting when you are within 5 metres of another participant’s rear wheel or riding next to someone within 2 meters. You are allowed 15 seconds in someone’s draft zone. Once you are passed, you must drop back out of the draft zone before overtaking the person who passed you.
  • Cyclists caught drafting will receive a time penalty. Officials only issue a warning if in doubt. A second warning results in a time penalty too.

Running

  • Runners must wear their race numbers at the front of their adorned apparel at all times during the run.
  • Running with bare torso is not allowed.
  • Support vehicles or pacers are not allowed.
  • Runners must run on the designated path for the entire route. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
  • Wearing headphones is not allowed at all times.
