5. Why is my child’s timing not on the website?

The ChampionChip has the advantage of recording fast and accurate timing results for participants. In the event that your child’s timing was not recorded, this could be due to following reasons:

national family celebrations

National Family Celebrations(NFC)

NFC is a month-long annual event to celebrate and reinforce the importance of the family.

National Family Celebrations will carry the theme of Connecting Youths with Their Families. Youths taking the lead in bringing Family to the forefront, through a series of youth-driven family events.

This year, the Celebrations is calling all Singaporeans, young and old, to ‘Switch ‘n’ Click’! Family members are encouraged to put themselves in one another’s shoes. This will help family members better understand the demands of different roles in the family, proper financial planning and appreciate one another more in the process.

There is a line up of exciting activities for all families in Singapore. So grab your family and come down for some fantastic family fun!

First launched in 1985, National Family Celebrations (formerly known as National Family Week) is an important annual national event to celebrate and reinforce the importance of the family. This iconic national event is championed by the National Family Council (NFC), with strong support from the Ministry of Social and Family Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS). The Council is a people sector-led committee that aims to promote and build resilient families in Singapore.

Through the month long Celebrations, families can take part in a wide array of interesting activities and events and spend quality time together!

Highlights of National Family Celebrations

There are fun, exciting activities for all in the family, during this period. Families can enjoy the following key events:

Switch ‘n’ Click Show with the Muttons

The NFC Launch Event, titled Switch ‘n’ Click Show, was held at the Singapore Expo Max Pavilion. This youth-driven family forum, boasts an exciting line-up of speakers, such as celebrity couple Daniel Ong and Jaime Teo, Mediacorp artiste Suhaimi Yusof, alongside Mr Lim Soon Hock, Chairman of NFC, and Mrs Josephine Teo, Assistant Secretary-General, NTUC. Youths and parents will get a chance to interact with the speakers as they explore family-related issues and share useful insights. The forum officially kick-started the month long celebrations. The public can stand a chance to win these tickets by participating in contests.

Family Day Out Carnival at the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade (outside Marina Bay Sands). The Carnival features exciting activities suitable for everyone, young and old. Families can look forward to taking part in bonding activities and winning attractive lucky draw prizes! Admission to the Family Day Out Carnival was free.

Singaporeans spend time with their family during meals and family outings. In a poll conducted by the National Family Council (Council), 300 Singaporeans were asked to share what comes first in their lives. Six in 10 (58.3%) of the respondents chose family, followed by personal pursuits/interest (11%) and health (10.3%).

Despite the hectic schedule in Singapore, a fair proportion (41.6%) of respondents does have meals with their family at least 4 times a week. Four in ten respondents (40.3%) also go out with their families at least once a week, and half of them (47%) communicate and engage in activities with their families 5 to 10 hours every week. The poll also revealed that 9 in 10 respondents enjoy spending time with their families, and are always there when their family needs them. However, many (57.7% of the respondents) agree that they do not spend enough time with their families.

One in 3 respondents (30%) reported that they spend less than 5 hours a week with their families. Most respondents (90%) would like to spend more time with their families, including those who think that they spend enough time. “Living in cosmopolitan Singapore, we work hard to put food on the table.

We work even harder during this time of economic uncertainty. However, we must remember that family relationships, like all relationships need to be nurtured and tended to, whether in good times or bad. In fact, family ties can be strained as families go through stress. There is thus a greater need to consciously pay attention to building family resilience.

The results of the poll are heartening, as it shows Singaporeans are still placing family first during this time. But it also shows there is room for improvement in terms of spending time together. That is why the National Family Council holds the National Family Celebrations every year – to reinforce the importance of the family, and the importance of making time for our families.

The month-long National Family Celebrations saw the most number of family activities, events and participants this year in its 25 years of history. The Celebrations was brought to a close this evening by Guest-of-Honour Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Mrs Lee at a Family Sports Day event, which saw thousands learning a sport together as a family. At the event, National Family Council also shared results from the Singapore Family Values Survey, which confirmed that the core family values held by Singaporeans two decades ago have not changed. Singaporeans still value the family and regard as very important family values such as Love, Care and Concern, Mutual Respect, Filial Responsibility, Commitment and Communication. This is despite economic, social and technological changes over the years.

Findings from the Singapore Family Values Survey
The five values were mooted in 1993 by the then Committee on the Family under the Advisory Council on Family and the Aged (NACFA), with inputs from the general public. NFC’s latest survey in March 2010 shows that these
values still hold, as more than 80% of 1,500 respondents indicated they are very important to them. More than 60% see them becoming more important in future. Family is still paramount, with more than 90% of respondents indicating that family is the most important aspect of their lives. The majority (94% of respondents) also said that they have a close-knit family.

The release of the survey findings reinforces the inter-generational theme of the 25th National Family Celebrations, which is to encourage family members, both old and young, to “live, love and play together”.

Portico Restaurant Singapore

Portico Prime, a modern European restaurant and bar located within Dempsey Hills, an iconic lifestyle dining destination in Singapore.

Serving casual modern European food-fare and tapas in an elegant colonial house setting, our tall ceilings, white brick columns and simple yet refined interiors invite you to just sit back and savor – the indulgent menu selection, the friendly attentive service and the lovely company of friends and family. Our alfresco area looks out onto an expanse of lush greenery, a rare sight in Singapore. It is the perfect spot for many occasions: a business lunch, chilling out with friends, that romantic date or hearty family brunches on weekends. A culinary retreat in more ways than one – let our chef’s innovative creations delight your palates and the peaceful, luscious environment embrace your senses.

Portico Prime recently bagged the prestigious Singapore’s Top Restaurants 2016 Award by WINE&DINE under the Modern European Category.

Portico Prime is a suitable venue for many occasions. Our interior holds a spacious main dining hall, 2 private rooms and a bar, in addition to alfresco dining space and an outdoor garden, all housed within the prominent Block 10 of Dempsey Hills. Diners can choose to have pre drinks at our bar, proceed to main dining hall for their meal then end with dessert and drinks at the alfresco area adjacent to our garden. Dining becomes a gastronomic experience when you are at Portico Prime.

We have hosted and organized different types of events such as weddings & solemnizations, product launches, fashion shows, birthday/private themed parties, kids parties, corporate events, networking sessions, business meetings and wine/whisky tasting events.

Our team prides ourselves in being a “one-stop shop”, where we are able to provide clients options such as, photography services, live music entertainment and other event management services.

There are 2 private rooms at Portico Prime available for booking:

1) VIP room 1

– Sit 14 guests
– Private alfresco area.

This room is suitable for meetings, presentations, business lunches or dinners and intimate private gatherings.

2) VIP room 2

– Sits 18 guests on 3 separate tables
– 14 people on one long table setting

With the flexibility of movable furniture, clients can choose the best suited table setting (up till 18 pax) for their events. All rooms are fully equipped with AV set – project, screen and microphone with speaker.

Bespoke Events for Every Need & Want

We believe that every event should be special and unique, reflecting not only the homeliness of the restaurant, but the character of the host. This is why we don’t do repeat menus or event styles, because every party or celebration hosted at Portico is fully customised and bespoke to the host’s needs and wants.

Portico’s modular space can be tailored to accommodate individual needs and provide each and every guest with an unforgettable highly personalised experience. Our team can custom design specific experiences for special events from bespoke dishes to stylised table settings – the kind of moments that guests will talking about long after the event has ended.

Food Imagineering

The young and dynamic Portico team have stepped admirably up to the challenge of bringing their own influences to the Portico menu. Their focus is upon reinventing classic homely dishes with a touch of finesse. The team at Portico work towards a simple ethic: They prepare and serve food that they would enjoy serving guests in their own home. This is never more evident than in the simple way that dishes are presented. It’s this ethos that has won them awards like Chope’s Diner’s Choice Awards New Restaurant of the Year 2014 and Open Rice’s Top Ten Best New Restaurants of 2014.

We Are Singavores

A menu replete with a full selection of foods, from hearty snacks, healthy soups and salads, and filling sandwiches, through to generous main courses, followed by tempting desserts. All of these options are served in Portico’s simple, homely style. Simple presentation does not mean simple tastes though. A lot of thought is focused towards flavours, textures and presentation without neglecting the soul and essence of the dish.

The Portico menu has been imagineered to provide hearty food using fresh seasonal ingredients – where possible these ingredients are sourced locally or are taken from our own edible garden. We consider ourselves Singavores or Singapore “locavores”, a movement that focuses on sourcing and eating food locally. For example, we work very closely with Tiberias Harvest, which offers fish delivered within hours from its sea farm, located off the north-eastern coast of Pulau Ubin. They emphasise using the right techniques in their harvest and post-harvest process, to ensure the quality of each order.

About Portico Group

Portico Singapore is a boutique home-grown F&B group. Our corporate philosophy is that of creating dining concepts that give customers comfort dining pleasures paired with good service and good ambience. Portico Singapore currently has 3 concepts under its wings – Portico Prime, Portico Host & Portico Platos.

Our Vision

I Made It In Singapore

This ad campaign has been attracting eyeballs and international media players – by telling the stories of other top international talent that have risen to new career highs in Singapore.

I reached new career heights and I did it in Singapore. That in a nutshell encapsulates what the SMF “I Made it in Singapore” campaign is about – attracting the attention of international media talents by highlighting the testimonies of international personalities who have had positive experiences working with Singapore media companies.

The “I Made it in Singapore” print and outdoor advertising campaign kicked off the launch of SMF at MIPCOM 2006, in Cannes. The campaign highlights the growing capabilities of the Singapore media industry that are increasingly attracting international recognition and demand.

The campaign also throws the spotlight on Singapore’s positioning as an excellent international collaborator, its strategic location between the East and the West and its dedication to create a media industry with global talents.

Some of the renowned media personalities and icons that have been featured in the “I Made it in Singapore” campaign include CEO and Chairman of Hyde Park Entertainment Ashok Amritraj as well as film directors/producers Max Makowski (One Last Dance), Marco Serafini (House of Harmony), Nigel Levy (Crossings) and Rakesh Roshan (Krrish).

Also in the star-studded list are award-winning photographer and television presenter Michael Yamashita (Zheng He), interactive game designer Joe Dever (Lone Wolf), computer animation pioneer Phil Mitchell (Sing to the Dawn) and author/journalist Peter Wiley, who is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of John Wiley & Sons.
