Milking The Moment
My child is averse to milk. What do I do?

Q My 11-month-old baby was born prematurely at 34 weeks. When he started showing an aversion to milk just before he turned 10 months, I tried fooling him by flavouring his milk with some juice. But when he cottoned on to my ploy, he started refusing anything that tastes of milk, especially if it’s in a milk bottle. I’m trying my best to creatively feed him foods containing milk but I know I’ll soon run out of ideas. What should I do?

A It is common for children to reduce their milk intake towards the end of their first year.  You can try bottles with a faster-flowing teat, or use a training cup or straw. Offer him calcium-rich foods such as yoghurt and cheese.  If he eats a balanced diet, he should be get adequate nutrition.
