Blue Diamond - a gem of a restaurant for moms, dads and kids
Your little ones would probably fall in love with the breadcrumb-coated fish cutlet
By Jacqueline Tan
Blue Diamond is a no-frills, halal eatery specialising in Southern Indian dishes and dum biryani at wallet-friendly prices.
It first opened at Buffalo Road and buzzes with loyal patrons till today. The new outlet packs in the crowds on weekends.
Your kids will love the breadcrumb-coated fish cutlet ($2 per piece), a crisp patty made with potatoes, fish and mild spices.
The restaurant also serves surprisingly good Chinese-style concoctions such as sweet and sour chicken or fish ($9) and stir-fried mixed veggies ($4) dished up by Indian chefs, no less. The mildest curry is chicken korma ($4) with its rich coconut and cashew nut-based gravy. Blue Diamond is also known for its mango lassi ($3 a glass).
Specialties like black pepper chicken ($4) and mutton mysore ($5) will satisfy all your chilli cravings.
A must-order is the chicken or fish biryani ($6.50) – the version here is done individually in small brass pots where fragrant basmati rice is cooked together with the well-marinated meat and spices. Divine!
