Sentosa Nature Discovery
Be a nature detective as you enjoy the great outdoors
If you love nature and the great outdoors, you will love Sentosa's new attraction.
Launched on 5 August by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, the Sentosa Nature Discovery promises nature up close and personal.
Your journey of discovery starts at the gallery where you can take a peek at what can can expect on the trail. This gallery is housed in a former monorail station. You can then head out the 200-metre elevated boardwalk trail, which incidentally used to be monorail tracks.
Along this 200-metre trail, you can expect to see birds, insects, plants; and if you stood really still and quiet, you might even catch a squirrel or two prancing around their natural habitat. It is refreshing to hear birds chirping overhead as you walk across the boardwalk.
At the end of the the boardwalk, you can choose between two ground-level trails to continue your journey.
We spoke to a few participants at the launch of the Sentosa Nature Discovery. The students really enjoyed being close to nature and found learning in the great outdoors a welcome change from being in a stuffy classroom all day.

Stephen Joaler Espidillon, P5, Qiaonan Primary School; ""I am very happy to be here today. I will definitely come back. There is so much to learn about nature and I can see for myself the things that I have learnt in class." |
 |
Nigel Mui, Secondary 1, St Gabriels Secondary School, "The best experience was when the guide got us to measure the humidity of the air around us. We found out that the humidity today is between 60 and 67 degrees." |
 |
S Rajewari, Secondary 1, Beaty Secondary, "This has been a lot of fun. It is different from just reading information from a book. It is also very nice to come out and be so close to nature instead of being stuck in a classroom the whole time." |
 |
A teacher of Qiaonan Primary School felt that such opportunities are as important to the students as they are to teachers. Madam Siti Ramzah, a teacher with 10 years experience; "There are definitely a lot of plus points in bringing the kids here. They can relate what they have learnt in theory and see it for themselves, with their own eyes for the very first time.It has also helped to arouse all the different senses. It helps them use all their five senses which is so important in the learning of Science. The children gain so much more from their own experience here than from what I can just tell them in a classroom. Theory and reality combines brilliantly here." |
So if you're headed out for Sentosa any time soon, be sure to give Sentosa Nature Discovery a visit. For more information, you can visit the Sentosa website.
